Ingredients:
- 3 lbs baking apples, peeled, cored, and cubed
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and dice the apples into uniform 1 inch chunks. Note: Uniform sizes mean they all soften at the same time.
- Place the apple chunks, water, and lemon juice into a large heavy bottomed pot.
- Cover with a lid and bring to a simmer over medium low heat.
- Cook for 15-20 minutes until the apples are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
- Stir in the maple syrup, ground cinnamon, and salt.
- Let the mixture simmer uncovered for another 2-5 minutes until the liquid reduces and the sauce looks glossy.
- Remove the pot from the heat.
- Use a potato masher to crush the apples for a rustic style.
- Use an immersion blender until the texture is velvety for a smooth finish.
