Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 oz marinara sauce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 lb ziti pasta
- 15 oz whole milk ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and onion, cooking until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent. Stir in the minced garlic for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the marinara sauce, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add ziti and cook for 2 minutes less than the package directions for al dente. Drain the pasta.
- In a medium bowl, stir together the ricotta, beaten egg, chopped parsley, and 1 cup of the mozzarella.
- Pour the meat sauce over the cooked pasta and toss to coat. Gently fold in the ricotta mixture, leaving some white swirls for a marbled effect.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Transfer the pasta mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top evenly with the remaining 2 cups of mozzarella and the Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and the edges are deep golden brown.
