Ingredients:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz / 432g) yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (240g) sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup (115g) melted butter
  • 1 tsp (2g) ground cinnamon
  • 1 can (21 oz / 595g) apple pie filling
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) milk or heavy cream
  • ½ tsp (2.5ml) vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan thoroughly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, sour cream, eggs, melted butter, and cinnamon. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until the batter is smooth and cinnamon is evenly distributed.
  3. Pour half of the cake batter into the bottom of the prepared pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  4. Spoon the apple pie filling over the batter, gently swirling it with a knife to ensure the fruit reaches the edges.
  5. Top the fruit with the remaining cake batter, dolloping it on and smoothing it over the top to seal in the filling.
  6. Place the pan in the center rack of the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the edges pull away slightly from the pan and the top is pale golden brown.
  7. Allow the cake to cool for about 10 minutes on a wire rack.
  8. Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until velvety, then drizzle the glaze over the warm cake.
