Ingredients:

  • 1 lb fresh Hatch green chiles
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

Instructions:

  1. Wash the chiles and pat them completely dry with paper towels to ensure proper charring.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the whole peppers with the oil and salt until they have a thin, glossy sheen.
  3. Arrange the chiles in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded to allow air circulation.
  4. Set the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and roast for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping the peppers halfway through until the skin is blackened in patches.
  5. Immediately transfer the hot peppers into a Ziploc bag or a sealed container and let them sit for 10-15 minutes to steam.
  6. Gently rub the blackened skin off with your fingers or a paper towel.
